Interesting observation. I’ve noticed something similar with Smart Lighting in PhotoLab when working with certain DNG files, especially from drones. Sometimes the tool seems to prioritize lifting shadow areas rather than pulling down highlights, which can make it feel like it’s not affecting the clipped whites at all.

One thing that helped me was switching between **Uniform** and **Spot Weighted** Smart Lighting modes and adjusting the intensity. In some cases, placing control points on the brightest parts of the image also helped the algorithm understand what should be protected. Drone images can be tricky because the dynamic range and metadata in the DNG sometimes behave differently compared to regular camera RAW files.

For strong highlight clipping, I’ve also had better results combining **Highlight recovery** with **Selective Tone adjustments** instead of relying only on Smart Lighting.

More broadly, it’s interesting how different tools approach lighting control and brightness management. While reading about lighting technologies recently, I came across a good explanation of how professional lighting systems handle brightness and control through structured protocols like DALI. It’s obviously used more in building lighting than photography, but the concept of managing light levels intelligently is pretty interesting.

If you’re curious about the technical side of lighting control, this guide explains it well:

Curious if anyone else here editing drone DNGs in PhotoLab has found a consistent workflow for recovering highlights.

Loving the x40 ultra, dog doesn't mind it (getting some cool photos). My parrot though is not a fan!
Vacuum robot cleaner
Ok ………..
Dreame X50  Ultra, it’s amazing, saves me so much time and was surprised that my dog isn’t even bothered by it.
Very pleased...
I've purchased X50 but it's not cleaning close to skirting boards in kitchen. There's an overhang that would clear the camera but it's not close enough. I've tried remapping and ai extender mop without success?
Dreame l40 on its 1st deep clean and impressed so far
I have a robotic vacuum cleaner with mop auto empty and mop self cleaning. It is an l10s ultra generum 2
